Wizards and their spell-books - PC's never seem to keep spell-books that look anything like those they find. And frankly random assortments of basic spells always got a big meh from me. (It's like treasure only more!)

  1. Nice! I usually do this as well--figure out what kind of Wizard would have had the spellbook in question (or just did, until he was killed by the PCs)and then include a thematically-appropriate selection of spells.

  2. I found this table to be more interesting if I do two d100 rolls, and combine them. E.g.:

    73: speed
    76: weapons
    73+76: Weapons of Speed (or Speed as a Weapon)

    34: shapeshifting
    41: universal
    34+41: How To Blend In Everywhere

    43: stasis
    25: sight
    43+25: Ways of Tracking (or How To Only Have Eyes For One Person)

    90: knowledge
    11: necromancy
    90+11: How I Preserved Your Mother

  3. My old wizard used to love collecting spell books, especially of major villains we defeated. This would make them even more interesting.
